stuck between Geico and Progressive in NY, thoughts?

Honestly, I’ve bounced between both in NY and it’s always the little stuff that gets you. Geico’s app is slick, but when I had a minor fender bender, their process felt like a scavenger hunt—lots of “just one more document.” Progressive was smoother for me, but their rates crept up after renewal. My advice: jot down what matters most (speedy claims, price, whatever), then dig into those policy details. It’s not glamorous, but it saves headaches later... trust me, I learned the hard way.

Yeah, that “one more document” dance with Geico is all too familiar… had to chase down a random repair receipt once, and it dragged out what should’ve been simple. On the flip side, Progressive did bump my rate out of nowhere after a year, which felt sneaky. Honestly, your advice about listing what actually matters to you is spot on. It’s never just about the flashy app or the lowest number—sometimes it’s just about who makes life less complicated when things go sideways.

Honestly, I hear you on both fronts. Geico’s paperwork chase can be a headache, but Progressive’s rate hikes aren’t exactly rare—most carriers sneak those in after the first year’s “teaser” rate. I always tell folks: don’t get too dazzled by the initial quote. Dig into how each handles claims and what hoops you’ll jump through when things go wrong. Sometimes paying a few bucks more for less hassle is worth it, but it really depends on your tolerance for red tape.

That’s the thing—how much “red tape” are we talking? I’ve had tickets and an accident, so I’m already flagged as high-risk. Does either company actually make claims harder if you’re not their ideal customer? Or is it just paperwork overload either way?

Honestly, both Geico and Progressive have pretty streamlined claims processes nowadays, even for high-risk folks. The main “red tape” is usually just more questions or extra verification, not outright roadblocks. I’ve seen claims go through quickly as long as you’re upfront with your info. It’s more about paperwork than them flat-out making things difficult—just a bit more to fill out if your record’s not squeaky clean.
