How should NJ policies handle weeks with fewer office commutes?

How do New Jersey insurers distinguish regular commuting from occasional trips to the office when remote work changes how often someone drives in? The commute distance and work location could stay the same, while the number of weekly trips varies over the year.

At renewal, should the annual mileage estimate reflect a typical year rather than a stretch of mostly remote weeks? I’d also want to know whether insurers treat commute frequency as a separate use detail or mainly rely on mileage, and what policy or quote information is worth confirming before updating either estimate. I wouldn’t assume remote work automatically changes coverage or earns a discount.

A mostly-remote stretch can skew the estimate, so I’d build it from the expected pattern over a full year: estimate commute miles for each type of work week, multiply by how many of those weeks you expect, then add other driving. That gives a more representative annual figure than simply extending a few remote weeks. I’d still confirm whether the insurer asks about commute frequency separately, since the mileage estimate alone may not answer that.

Before changing either entry, check the quote’s use classification and annual-mileage field separately. If it asks how often you commute, make sure that description matches the expected work-week pattern. If it asks only for annual mileage, use the full-year estimate rather than treating commute frequency as a second field.
