I get why UM is required, but honestly, I still think it’s overkill for some people. Like, if you’re driving a beater that’s barely worth anything, does it make sense to pay extra for all this coverage? I know accidents happen and it’s not always your fault, but sometimes it just feels like the state is forcing everyone to pay for stuff that only really helps in worst-case scenarios. I’d rather have the choice, even if it’s risky. Maybe I’m missing something, but it just feels like another way to squeeze money out of us.
I get where you’re coming from—it does feel like a lot when your car isn’t worth much. But I’ve seen some wild situations where UM coverage saved people from huge medical bills, even if their car was a total loss anyway. It’s frustrating to pay for something you might never use, but I guess it’s more about protecting yourself than the car. Still, I agree, it’d be nice to have a bit more choice in the matter.
I get the frustration, especially if you’re driving something that’s not exactly a showpiece. Still, I’ve always looked at UM coverage as more about protecting myself than the car—medical bills can get out of hand fast, even for minor accidents. Years ago, a friend got sideswiped in his ‘68 Mustang and the other driver had nothing. The coverage didn’t save the car, but it kept him from drowning in hospital debt. It’s not ideal to have less choice, but I’d rather err on the side of caution.
I get where you’re coming from, but I still wish there was a bit more flexibility. Not everyone wants or needs the same level of coverage, especially if you’re driving an old beater that’s barely worth the deductible. I get that medical bills are the big risk, but sometimes it feels like we’re paying for stuff we might never use. Guess it’s just the trade-off for peace of mind, but I’d rather have the option to scale back if money’s tight.
Yeah, I totally get wanting to scale back, especially when you’re driving something that’s worth less than your last grocery run. I’ve had my share of “character” cars—one even needed a screwdriver to start. But Nebraska doesn’t really care if our rides are held together with duct tape... they want that uninsured motorist coverage no matter what. It does sting paying for coverage you might never use, especially when budgets are tight. Still, I guess it beats getting stuck with a mountain of bills if someone else messes up and can’t pay. Just wish there was more wiggle room for folks not rolling in cash.
