Mileage discounts might actually be underrated... depends on your driving habits, right? I track mine closely, and since I barely hit 5k miles a year, the savings have been surprisingly decent. Maybe it's more about individual usage than the discount itself?

Mileage discounts are definitely one of those sneaky-good savings methods people overlook. My insurer asked me how many miles I drive annually, and I was like "Uh... is 'too many soccer practices to count' an acceptable answer?" 😂 But seriously, even with family errands, weekend trips, and the occasional "I forgot milk again" grocery run, we're still hovering around 8-9k a year. Not super low, but enough to snag a decent discount.

Funny thing is, I never really thought about tracking mileage closely until my brother-in-law started bragging about his savings (typical). He works from home and barely touches his car—it's practically ornamental at this point. He mentioned saving something like $200 a year just by accurately reporting his mileage. Made me wonder if I'm missing out by just guessing my annual miles instead of actually tracking them.

Now I'm curious—do you guys think insurers really verify this stuff closely? Like, if you underestimate accidentally one year, do they come knocking at your door with mileage police badges? 😂 Or is it more of an honor system thing where they trust your ballpark estimate?

Mileage discounts definitely add up over time—I started paying attention to mine last year after realizing my insurer had me down for about 12k annually, when in reality I was closer to 7k. Honestly, I just checked my oil change receipts and annual inspection reports to get a pretty accurate number. Haven't heard of anyone getting audited by mileage cops yet... but now you've got me wondering if that's even a thing haha.

Haha, mileage cops aren't really a thing, but insurers do occasionally verify mileage—usually during claims or policy renewals. Checking oil receipts is smart, though I'd recommend snapping a quick odometer pic annually too, just to be safe.

True, I've never seen anyone get busted by the mythical "mileage police," but insurers do sometimes double-check. Had a client once who got asked for proof after reporting super low annual miles... luckily he had a recent tire rotation receipt handy. Snapping an odometer pic is definitely a good habit—takes two seconds and saves headaches later. Better safe than sorry, right?
