Yeah, noticed the same thing when I moved states a few years backβ€”insurance rates are a weird beast. Maybe it's partly traffic density, but could it also be weather-related? Like, does NY's winter snow chaos factor into higher premiums? Either way, totally feel your pain...nothing like paying extra just to dodge potholes and aggressive cabbies, haha. Hang in there, hopefully your cautious driving pays off eventually.

Pretty sure it does... moved from sunny Cali to Colorado and my rates jumped. Guess insurers don't trust my "expert" snow-driving skills learned from YouTube tutorials, lol.

Pretty sure weather plays a sneaky role in premiums. I lived in Michigan for years, and every winter my insurance renewal felt like a subtle reminder that sliding gracefully into snowbanks isn't exactly a marketable skill. Moved down south recently, and suddenly my rates droppedβ€”guess insurers finally trust me not to ice-skate my car into a mailbox. Military discounts probably help, but location and weather seem to be the real MVPs here...

I feel you on the weather thing. Lived in Colorado for a while and every winter my renewal felt like punishment for daring to commute through icy mountain roads. Moved to Arizona last year, and suddenly I'm paying less just because there's zero chance I'll slide into a snowplow? Military discounts probably do factor in, but honestly, location seems like the bigger deal. Either way, congrats on escaping those Michigan winters...your wallet (and sanity) will thank you.

I definitely agree about location playing a huge role. When I first started driving, I was living in upstate New York, and winters there were brutal. My insurance rates were pretty steep for a new driver, partly because of the harsh weather and icy roads. Last year, I moved down to North Carolina for school, and my insurance dropped significantly. Same car, same driverβ€”but suddenly I'm considered less risky just because there's no snow or ice to worry about.

Military discounts probably help a bit too, but from what I've seen personally, the zip code on your policy makes a bigger difference overall. It's reassuring thoughβ€”at least it feels like something within our control (sort of), unlike age or experience level. Congrats on your move; leaving those icy roads behind really does make life easier...and cheaper.
