I've noticed something similar when insuring my old Mustang. Last winter, I randomly got quoted way lower than usual—maybe insurers assume we're all tucked away safely at home binge-watching shows instead of sliding around icy roads? Could be onto something there...

I've wondered about this too, but I think it's more about seasonal risk than anything else. A few things I've noticed:

- Insurers often adjust rates based on seasonal accident stats—fewer people driving in winter storms might mean fewer claims.
- Could also be related to mileage estimates; maybe they assume we're driving less in colder months?
- Military discounts are definitely real, though. My cousin got a pretty decent rate drop when he enlisted.

Still, your binge-watching theory isn't totally off-base... insurers do love their data.

Yeah, military discounts are legit. My neighbor's son joined the Marines last year and got a noticeable drop in his premiums. But honestly, I think insurers also factor in discipline and training—maybe they see military folks as safer drivers overall? Just guessing though...

I mean, maybe insurers think military folks are safer drivers in general, but from what I've seen, it's not always that straightforward. A few years back, I went on a cross-country road trip with my buddy who was fresh out of the Army. Dude was disciplined as hell about everything—packing, planning, timing—but once he got behind the wheel? Total speed demon. I'm talking 90 mph through Kansas flatlands like we were in some Fast & Furious movie. Ironically, he had way cheaper insurance than me, and I'd never gotten a ticket in my life (knock on wood).

So yeah, military discounts are definitely legit, but I'm guessing it's more about insurers wanting to attract a certain customer demographic rather than assuming every military person drives like a saint. Just my two cents...

Yeah, your take makes sense. Insurance companies probably see military folks as a stable demographic overall—steady income, disciplined lifestyle, etc.—rather than assuming they're all perfect drivers. I've road-tripped with a couple military friends myself, and let's just say discipline doesn't always translate to the gas pedal... Anyway, funny story and good point about how discounts aren't always about actual driving habits.
