- 100% agree on the “DMV roulette” thing—sometimes you get someone who’s super helpful, other times it’s like they’re inventing new rules on the spot.
- I get why they’re strict with insurance and safety, but man, the inconsistency is what gets me.
- Laminated flowchart? Would be a game changer. I’ve actually started bringing extra copies of everything just in case... learned that the hard way after getting sent home for missing a random doc once.
- At least you got through it—some folks end up making three trips.

I’ve definitely noticed the “DMV roulette” thing too—one time, the person at the counter insisted my proof of residency had to be a utility bill, but the website said bank statement was fine. Ended up having to come back with both just to be safe. It’s wild how much depends on who you get. Do you think it’s more about training, or are they just overloaded and making judgment calls?

I get what you’re saying, but I’m not totally convinced it’s just about training or being swamped. I think a lot of it comes down to how the rules are written—some of the guidelines are vague, so different clerks interpret them their own way. I’ve had one person accept a lease agreement, another wouldn’t even look at it. It’s like they’re following the same script but reading between the lines differently. Maybe if the website and the in-person checklist matched up better, there’d be less confusion... but yeah, it’s definitely a gamble every time.

I know exactly what you mean. It’s like rolling the dice every time you go in there—sometimes you get a clerk who’s chill, sometimes they act like you’re trying to pull a fast one. Honestly, I’ve had to bring the same paperwork twice because one person said “not enough,” then the next person stamped it without even blinking. The rules seem more like guidelines half the time. You’d think with all the tech we have now, they could at least get the online checklist to match what they actually want in-person... but here we are. Hang in there—getting anything car-related done in MA is always a bit of a circus.

Yeah, I’ve run into that too—one time I brought every document listed online, but the clerk still wanted a random extra form I’d never heard of. Ever notice how the insurance stamp is sometimes a bigger deal than the actual registration? Makes me wonder if anyone’s ever had it go smoothly on the first try...
