Car insurance in MA is a whole circus, honestly. I’m still new to the whole thing, but your “agent lottery” description is spot on. I had one guy tell me my rate would go down if I “just kept driving carefully”—like, thanks, that’s super specific advice. Another agent started explaining “comprehensive” coverage and then just trailed off into talking about his favorite pizza place. Not helpful.
Totally agree on the loyalty thing being a trap. My mom swears by her agent and pays way more than I do, even though I have less coverage. When I showed her my quote, she acted like I’d just told her Santa isn’t real.
