Title: Saving cash just for driving less? Didn’t think it was real

Does it make you feel more in control, or just kind of boxed in?

Honestly, a bit of both. I started tracking miles last year and at first, it felt empowering - like I was finally seeing where all those little trips added up. But after a while, I caught myself skipping errands just to avoid logging extra miles. The savings were decent, but not life-changing. Sometimes convenience wins out, especially when it's something like milk or medicine. The paperwork gets old fast though... I’m not convinced the long-term habit change sticks unless the discount is significant.

Totally get this. I tried the “drive less, save more” thing too, but after a week of walking to the store for groceries, I realized carrying a gallon of milk is basically arm day at the gym. The paperwork is a pain, and honestly, if the discount doesn’t cover my coffee budget, I’m not sure it’s worth skipping all those quick trips. Convenience usually wins for me... especially when it’s raining.

Yeah, that hits home. I tried tracking my miles for one of those insurance discounts, but honestly, the hassle wasn’t worth the tiny payout. Plus, sometimes you just need to make a late-night run for cold meds or snacks - no way around it. Convenience usually wins for me too, especially when the weather’s bad or I’m just wiped out.

Honestly, I get where you’re coming from. Those mileage tracking apps can be a pain, and the savings aren’t always as big as they sound in the ads. Some companies only offer like 5-10% off unless you barely drive at all. I’ve seen a few folks save more, but it usually means cutting out almost every non-essential trip. For most people, convenience wins - especially when life gets busy or the weather’s nasty. If you’re already driving less for other reasons, it might be worth it, but otherwise... not always a game changer.

Honestly, you nailed it. I’ve seen people get excited about those discounts, but after all the tracking and changing habits, the savings don’t always feel worth the hassle. If you’re already a low-mileage driver, sure, but otherwise… yeah, convenience usually wins out, especially in bad weather. It’s not a magic fix for everyone.
