Honestly, I’m right there with you.

the payout would barely cover a decent down payment on another beater
—that’s exactly why I dropped full coverage on my old Civic. Here’s how I looked at it:

- Premiums were creeping up every year, but the car’s value was going the other way.
- If I totaled it, insurance would’ve handed me just enough for a Craigslist special... maybe.
- Liability + uninsured motorist felt like the sweet spot for peace of mind without overpaying.

Still get that nagging “what if” feeling sometimes, but at least my wallet’s happier.

Honestly, that makes a lot of sense. I’ve been debating the same thing with my old Corolla. The “what if” feeling is real, but when I looked at what full coverage would actually pay out, it just didn’t add up. Like, if the insurance check barely gets you another car in the same condition, what’s the point? I get nervous about dropping coverage, but at some point you’re just paying for peace of mind that doesn’t really match the car’s value.

Liability plus uninsured motorist seems like a solid compromise. At least you’re covered if someone else messes up, and you’re not throwing money away every month. Still, I keep second-guessing myself every time I see a fender bender on my commute... but yeah, my bank account is definitely happier now.

You’re not alone with that second-guessing—happens to a lot of folks, especially when you see accidents on the daily. Honestly, for an older Corolla, full coverage can be overkill. The payout just doesn’t justify the premiums most of the time. Liability plus uninsured motorist is a smart move, especially if you’re not driving anything super valuable. I’ve seen people pay more in premiums over a couple years than their car’s even worth. Peace of mind is great, but not if it’s draining your wallet for no real reason.

Honestly, unless you’re still making payments or your Corolla’s in pristine shape, liability plus uninsured/underinsured usually makes more sense. I’ve seen folks regret paying for full coverage when their payout barely covered the deductible. Just make sure you’re comfortable with the risk.
