Okay, so I admit it—I haven't exactly been the poster child for perfect driving lately. Got a couple speeding tickets in the past year (nothing crazy, just a bit over the limit here and there), and one minor fender bender that was technically my fault. Now my insurance company decided I'm some kind of menace on wheels and jacked up my rates like crazy. I'm in Kentucky, and it's starting to feel impossible to find a decent price.
I've been shopping around online, but every quote I get is either sky-high or they flat-out refuse to cover me. I mean, I get it, I'm not exactly their dream customer right now, but come on...it's not like I'm out there drag racing or something. Just a regular guy who maybe needs to slow down a bit more often, lol.
Anyway, has anyone else been through this? Did you find any companies that were more forgiving or at least somewhat reasonable? Or maybe there's some trick or loophole I'm missing? I've heard about these smaller local agencies sometimes being more flexible, but I dunno if that's true or just wishful thinking.
Honestly, at this point, I'm even considering one of those tracking devices that monitors your driving habits if it'll save me some cash. But then again, do I really want Big Brother watching every time I brake too hard or accelerate a little fast at a green light? Ugh.
If you've been in my shoes, I'd love to hear how you handled it. Any advice or recommendations would be awesome.
Been there myself, man... those tracking devices aren't as creepy as they sound. I tried one for about six months, and it actually knocked a decent chunk off my premium. Might be worth swallowing your pride for a bit to save some cash.
I was pretty skeptical of those tracking devices too at first, mostly because I wasn't thrilled about my driving habits being monitored. But after doing some digging, it seems they're mostly looking at things like sudden braking, speeding, or late-night driving. If you're generally cautious behind the wheel and don't mind a bit of oversight, it could genuinely help. I'm considering giving it a shot myself—saving money might outweigh the initial discomfort of feeling watched...
I hear you on the discomfort factor...I felt the same way when my insurer first suggested the tracker. But honestly, after a couple months, I mostly forgot it was even there. Plus, seeing the discount kick in made me feel a lot better about the whole thing, lol. I'd say if your driving's decent enough (and it sounds like it probably is), it's worth trying out. Worst-case scenario, you give it back and shop around again next renewal.
I went through something similar a few years back after my wife got into two minor accidents within six months. Tried one of those trackers too—felt weird at first, but the savings were legit, so can't complain much.
