just saw a story about a guy in Kansas whose car got totaled by hail, and turns out his insurance didn't cover it.

Yeah, makes sense to skip comprehensive on older cars. I'm driving an older Corolla myself, and after seeing a friend's car get wrecked by a falling branch (insurance didn't cover it either), I got pretty cautious. Started parking away from trees during storms and checking weather forecasts more often. Might sound paranoid, but hey, better safe than sorry... especially when you're already tight on cash.

Yeah, I get the logic behind skipping comprehensive on older cars, but have you checked how much it would actually cost to add it back? Sometimes it's surprisingly cheap, especially if your car isn't worth a ton. Might be worth running the numbers just to see. Also, does your area get hail often or was that Kansas story a rare thing? If severe weather is common where you live, even basic comprehensive coverage could save you from a big headache later...

Exactly this. I just bought insurance for the first time myself, and adding comprehensive coverage was way cheaper than I expected. Definitely worth checking outβ€”better safe than sorry, especially with hail lurking around...

Haha, yeah, I just went through this myself and honestly expected comprehensive to cost an arm and a leg. Turns out if your car's older, it's surprisingly affordable. A buddy of mine skipped it to save a few bucks...then a tree branch smashed his windshield during a storm. Guess who had regrets? Moral of the story: trees are sneaky, hail is ruthless, insurance is your friend.

Yeah, I was skeptical about comprehensive coverage too, especially since my driving record isn't exactly spotless. Figured they'd charge me through the roof, but when I checked it out, it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. Still hesitated thoughβ€”felt like another way for insurance companies to squeeze money out of me.

Then last summer happened. Parked my old Civic outside during a storm (garage was full of junk, typical me), and woke up to golf-ball-sized hail dents all over the hood and roof. Looked like someone took a hammer to it overnight. Of course, no comprehensive coverage meant every penny came straight from my wallet. Lesson learned the hard way.

I'm still wary of insurance companies in generalβ€”feels like they're always looking for loopholesβ€”but gotta admit, comprehensive might actually be worth it if you live somewhere with unpredictable weather. Trees and hail don't discriminate...
