just saw a story about a guy in Kansas whose car got totaled by hail, and turns out his insurance didn't cover it.

Interesting perspective, but doesn't that leave you a bit uneasy? I get the math behind dropping comprehensive on older cars, but hail damage can be brutalβ€”saw a friend's Accord get totaled by golf-ball-sized hail a couple years back. Even if the car's not worth much, dealing with sudden replacement costs seems stressful. Guess it's a gamble either way...

I see your point, but honestly, comprehensive coverage isn't always that expensive on older cars. I kept mine precisely because of hail and storm risksβ€”peace of mind is worth a few extra bucks each month, at least for me.

I get the peace of mind thing, but have you actually compared quotes lately? I ran the numbers last year on my 2006 Civicβ€”turns out comprehensive was almost double liability-only. Might depend on your area or insurer though...worth checking again maybe?

- Did the math recently on my old Corolla, comprehensive was about 40% more than liability-only.
- Honestly though, one good hailstorm or tree branch and you're out way more than that difference...
- Guess it depends how lucky you feel with Mother Nature lately, lol.

Yeah, I get your point, but honestly, how often does hail actually total a car? I've seen plenty of claims where the damage was mostly cosmeticβ€”annoying, sure, but not always worth the extra premium. Guess it depends on your comfort level with risk...
