just saw a story about a guy in Kansas whose car got totaled by hail, and turns out his insurance didn't cover it.

Made me realize I don't really know what my own policy covers, um, might need to check that... anyone else had surprises like this?

Yeah, that's a good call... policies can be sneaky sometimes. I remember being surprised mine didn't cover windshield chips without a deductible. Better safe than sorry, right?

Yeah, insurance can be tricky like that. Last year I got caught in a nasty hailstormβ€”nothing as bad as that Kansas guyβ€”but still ended up with dents all over the hood. Thought I was covered, but turns out my policy had a separate deductible just for hail damage... go figure. Ended up paying most of it out-of-pocket anyway. Definitely worth double-checking your coverage before the weather gets wild again.

Yeah, insurance fine print can really sneak up on you... had something similar happen with windshield damage a while back. Good reminder to always skim through your policy detailsβ€”tedious, sure, but saves headaches later. Glad your car wasn't totally wrecked though!

Good point about windshield coverage, had a similar issue myself. I commute daily and never thought much about hail until a coworker's car got hammered last spring... definitely made me double-check my own policy details afterward.
