- Bundling worked out for me too—my agent actually called it a “senior loyalty” thing, but who knows if that’s just sales talk.
- Tried a regional insurer once. Rates were great, but when I had a cracked windshield, the claim took forever. Ended up switching back to a bigger company just for peace of mind.
- Telematics is a mixed bag. I drive a lot of rural highways, so my score was decent, but my friend in Wichita said city driving tanked his discount. Guess it really does depend on your routes.

Bundling’s been a lifesaver for me too, but I always wonder if those “loyalty” perks are just a way to keep us from shopping around. I mean, I like my agent, but I’m not convinced they’re giving me the absolute best deal just because I’ve stuck around. Still, it’s hard to argue with the convenience of having everything in one place—less paperwork, fewer passwords to remember.

I hear you on the regional insurer thing. I tried one a few years back because their rates looked amazing on paper. First claim I had (hail damage, classic Kansas), it was like pulling teeth to get anything moving. I swear I spent more time on hold than actually driving that month. Ended up going back to one of the big names, even if it cost a bit more. Sometimes you just want to know someone will pick up the phone when you need them.

Telematics is such a weird one. I signed up for one of those “safe driver” apps thinking I’d get a nice discount since I’m pretty cautious behind the wheel. Turns out, they dinged me every time I drove after 10pm—even if it was just a quick run to the store. Apparently, late-night grocery runs are risky business now. My neighbor in Topeka swears by it though, but he barely leaves his neighborhood, so maybe that’s the trick.

Honestly, finding affordable insurance after 65 feels like a full-time job some days. Rates creep up, and half the “discounts” seem like smoke and mirrors. I’ve started reviewing my policy every year instead of just letting it auto-renew. Sometimes just calling and asking about new discounts gets you somewhere, but other times it’s like talking to a brick wall.

Anyway, if anyone figures out the magic formula for keeping rates down without sacrificing coverage, let me know... until then, I’ll just keep driving like there’s an insurance adjuster in the back seat.

Bundling sounded like a good idea to me at first, but I keep second-guessing if I’m missing out on better deals by not shopping around. I’m new to all this and honestly, every time I call for quotes, I feel like I’m being quizzed. The telematics thing freaks me out a bit too—my cousin tried it and got penalized for “hard braking” when a squirrel ran out in front of her. Makes me wonder if it’s worth the hassle or just another way for them to bump up your rates.

Bundling always sounds like a win, but I’ve found it’s not always the best deal—especially if you drive something a bit pricier. I tried telematics once and it dinged me for “aggressive acceleration” just merging onto the highway. Felt like I was being punished for driving a car that actually has some power. I get why people are wary. Sometimes old-school shopping around (even if it’s a pain) still gets you the best rate, at least in my experience.

Yeah, telematics can be brutal if you’ve got a heavier foot—or even just a car that responds quickly. I got flagged for “hard braking” when someone cut me off, like what was I supposed to do? Bundling hasn’t helped me much either since my record’s not spotless. Have you found any companies in Kansas that actually look past a couple of dings, or is it all just numbers to them?
