Finding affordable car insurance after 65 in kansas - anyone else struggling?
Yeah, that makes sense. I’ve got a newer BMW and “full coverage” is basically required by my lender, but I do wonder if it’s overkill once it’s paid off. The premiums are wild, especially after 65. Anyone else notice rates jump even with a clean record?
Yeah, those premiums really sneak up on you after 65, don’t they? I’ve had the same thing happen - clean record, no claims, and still got hit with a big hike. Honestly, once that car’s paid off, I’m probably dropping down to liability. Full coverage feels like paying for a gold-plated seatbelt at this point.
I hear you on the “gold-plated seatbelt” thing - it’s wild how much they want for full coverage now. I’ve been thinking about liability only too, but then I start worrying about deer or hail or whatever else Kansas throws at us. Has anyone actually had to use their full coverage lately, or is it just peace of mind that’s costing so much?
I hear you on the deer and hail thing - Kansas doesn’t mess around. I actually had to use my full coverage last year after a run-in with a raccoon of all things (didn’t even see it coming). The damage was way more than I thought it’d be, so I was glad I had it, but man, the premium hike after that was brutal. Felt like I was paying for a new car just to keep the old one on the road.
Honestly, I’ve been tempted to drop down to liability-only too, but then I remember how unpredictable stuff gets out here. My neighbor’s car got totaled in a hailstorm last spring and she was only carrying liability - she’s still kicking herself over that one. But at the same time, full coverage is eating up a chunk of my budget every month, especially after a couple of speeding tickets (yeah, not my proudest moments).
It’s kind of a gamble either way. If you’re driving something newer or you’re out on rural roads a lot (with all the wildlife), full coverage might save your bacon. But if your car’s not worth much and you can stomach the risk, liability could make sense. I keep going back and forth myself. Feels like there’s no perfect answer unless insurance companies suddenly get generous... which doesn’t seem likely.
Anyway, just wanted to say you’re not alone in feeling stuck with these prices. It’s tough out there.
Man, I hear you on the unpredictability out here. I’ve seen folks drop to liability and then get walloped by a freak hailstorm or a deer out of nowhere - it’s like the weather and wildlife are in cahoots. Ever looked into raising your deductible instead of dropping coverage? Sometimes that shaves off a bit without leaving you totally exposed, but I’m always a little skeptical about how much it really helps. Curious if anyone’s actually saved real money doing that, or if it just looks good on paper...
