Getting caught without car insurance in Iowa is no joke

Honestly, I don’t get why it’s so hard for some officers to just accept the digital proof. It’s 2024, not 1994. But yeah, I keep a paper copy too, just in case someone’s behind on tech or the cell signal sucks. Not worth risking a ticket or a whole mess just because someone won’t look at your phone. Better safe than sorry, even if it feels kinda dumb carrying both.

I hear you. I drive a car that costs more than my first house, but still have to dig out a crumpled paper card from the glove box like it’s 1997. My “digital wallet” is great until I’m in some rural Iowa dead zone and suddenly my phone’s just a fancy brick. Step one: screenshot your insurance card and save it in your photos. Step two: stash a paper copy somewhere you won’t spill coffee on it (ask me how I know). Step three: try not to look too smug when you have both ready. Works every time... except when it doesn’t.

Yep, that’s the move. I’d add—don’t trust the glove box alone, especially if you drive old iron like mine. Sun bakes everything to a crisp. Had a cop squinting at a faded card once… not fun. Keep a backup somewhere dry.

Backing this up 100%. I keep a digital copy in my phone’s wallet app, but I also stash a laminated card in the center console—just in case my phone’s dead or the signal’s garbage. Glove boxes are basically ovens in summer, especially with leather interiors... had a registration slip curl up like a potato chip once. Honestly, with how picky some officers can be about documentation, it’s worth having at least two backups. Never hurts to be over-prepared when you’re driving something that gets attention.

Yeah, glove boxes are brutal in the heat. I tried keeping my proof of insurance in there and the ink literally faded out after a couple months—totally unreadable. I get the digital backup thing, but I’m still paranoid about cell service dropping at the worst time. Iowa cops don’t mess around either; one missing doc and they’ll tow you first, ask questions later. Overkill? Maybe, but I’d rather look paranoid than get stuck on the side of the road.
