Getting caught without car insurance in Iowa is no joke

Had a friend get pulled over with a dead phone and the cop was not amused.

Been there, done that - except it was my ‘72 Chevelle and the cop was more interested in the car than my insurance card. Still, I keep a paper copy in the glovebox. Old habits die hard, and so do batteries.

Keeping a paper copy in the glovebox just makes sense. Phones are great until they aren’t - dead battery, no signal, you name it. I’ve always said that relying solely on tech for something as important as insurance proof is just asking for trouble. Plus, those old cars draw attention anyway, so it’s better to have your paperwork ready. Not sure why folks stopped carrying paper copies... it’s a two-second precaution that can save a lot of hassle.

That’s the truth. I used to think digital was foolproof until my phone died right as the officer walked up. Let’s just say, it was not my most charming moment. Paper’s saved me more than once, even if it does get a little crumpled in the glovebox. Do you guys keep anything else in there for emergencies - like a spare charger or just the paperwork?

Same here - paper backup is a must, even if it looks like it's been through a tornado. I keep a cheap phone charger, a flashlight, and a pen in there too. Never needed the flashlight yet, but it feels like good insurance.

I get why paper backups are handy, but I’m always paranoid I’ll lose it or it’ll get wrecked beyond recognition. My instructor drilled into us that digital is best - like, if my phone’s charged up, I can pull up insurance or whatever in seconds. That said, I do keep a tiny notepad and a pen in the glovebox. Had to use it once when my phone died and I needed to jot down some info after a fender bender. Guess you never know what’ll actually save your bacon...
