Totally get what you mean about the financial Jenga tower—insurance can feel like a never-ending stack of “just in case” add-ons. I used to think med pay was pointless since my health insurance is decent, but after a fender bender last year, I realized how fast those little costs add up. Even with low deductibles, stuff like co-pays, lost wages, or weird out-of-network bills can sneak up on you. It’s not always redundant, but yeah, sometimes it feels like overkill. Guess it depends on your risk tolerance and how much peace of mind you want.

Honestly, I used to think the same thing—why pay extra for med pay when my health insurance is already covering me? But after my partner got rear-ended last winter, we learned the hard way that even “good” health insurance doesn’t always cover everything. There were random ambulance charges and a physical therapy bill that somehow didn’t get processed right. It wasn’t financially devastating, but it was a hassle and some out-of-pocket costs we hadn’t planned for. Now I look at med pay as a bit of a buffer, especially since I’m on the road every day. It’s not for everyone, but for me, the peace of mind is worth it.

Totally get where you’re coming from. Med pay is one of those things people don’t think about until they need it—kind of like an umbrella you forget you have until it rains sideways. I’ve seen folks with “great” health insurance still end up with weird bills, especially for stuff like ambulances or out-of-network ER visits. It’s not always a huge extra cost either, depending on your policy. For people who drive a lot or have high deductibles, it can be a real lifesaver... or at least a wallet-saver.

I used to think med pay was just another way for the insurance company to squeeze a few more bucks out of me, but after my neighbor’s fender bender turned into a $2,000 ambulance ride (for a sprained ankle, no less), I started looking at it differently. Especially with the cars I drive—repairs are one thing, but medical bills? That’s a whole other level of pain. Has anyone actually had med pay cover something their regular health insurance didn’t? Curious if it’s ever actually made a difference for folks.

I get where you’re coming from—medical bills can spiral fast. I used to think, “Why bother? I’ve got health insurance.” But then I realized med pay can cover passengers too, and sometimes it kicks in before your health insurance even gets involved. That can mean less out-of-pocket if you’ve got a high deductible plan. Has anyone run into issues with their health insurance denying claims from a car accident, or is that just an urban legend?
