Last weekend, I was visiting family in Indiana and rented a car for the trip. Everything was going fine until, um, I got into a minor fender bender—nothing serious, just a little dent and some scratches. But then came the headache of figuring out insurance. I declined the rental company's extra coverage because my credit card supposedly covers rentals, but when I called them up afterward, they started throwing around terms like "secondary coverage" and "primary coverage," and honestly, it got confusing real quick.

Ended up spending half the day on the phone bouncing between my credit card company, my personal auto insurance, and the rental place. Still not totally sure who's paying for what or if I'm gonna be stuck with some surprise bill later on. Has anyone else had something similar happen when renting cars in Indiana or elsewhere? Would love to hear how you sorted it out or if there's something obvious I'm missing here...

Had something similar happen in Ohio last year—credit card coverage kicked in only after my personal insurance paid out first. Took weeks to sort out, lots of back-and-forth calls... definitely learned to read the fine print since then.

Yeah, rental insurance can be a real headache... I always assumed my credit card would cover everything, but now I'm second-guessing. Did your personal insurance rates go up afterward, or was it just the hassle factor?

Yeah, I totally get the confusion—credit card coverage can be pretty limited, depending on the fine print. My rates didn't go up afterward, thankfully, but dealing with all the paperwork and back-and-forth calls was definitely a hassle I'd rather avoid next time...

Yeah, credit card coverage is always way trickier than it sounds. Last year I scraped up a rental pretty good in Ohio and went through the same circus. Thought my card had me covered, but turns out they only kicked in after my personal insurance maxed out. Ended up paying a chunk out-of-pocket anyway. Lesson learned—now I just bite the bullet and pay for the rental company's coverage. Cheaper than another headache.
