Did you end up filing a police report with that footage, or just went straight to insurance? I've heard sometimes having an official report can speed things up... but maybe that's wishful thinking on my part.
I tried the police report route once when someone backed into my parked car and took off. Had footage clear enough to see the guy's face and license plate. Thought I was golden, right? Nope. Officer was nice enough, but basically said unless it's a major hit-and-run or injury, they're not chasing it down. Insurance didn't seem to care much either way, just wanted their forms filled out. So yeah... wishful thinking indeed. But hey, at least I got a funny story out of it for barbecues.
