But then again, I’ve got friends who swear by their cheap policies and have never had an issue. Maybe it’s just rolling the dice? Or maybe my cars are cursed.

- Honestly, I think a lot of it *is* luck. I’ve had “budget” coverage for years and only needed roadside once—response time was under 30 minutes, no drama.
- Premium plans sound great, but sometimes you’re just paying for perks you might never use.
- Agreed value is a must for classics or anything rare, but for daily drivers? Not always worth the extra cost.
- The commercials are hilarious though...never seen anyone on hold in those ads, just smiling people and talking animals.

I hear you on the luck factor. My last claim was with a no-frills insurer and it actually went smoother than I expected—no endless hold music, just straight to business. But I do wonder if that’s just because my claim was simple. Has anyone actually had to deal with a bigger accident or something more complicated with a budget policy? Curious if the experience holds up when things get messy.

That’s a fair question. I’ve seen both sides—my own minor fender bender was handled quickly, but a friend had a more serious collision last year with the same low-cost provider. The process dragged on for weeks, mostly because they kept asking for extra documentation and there was a lot of back-and-forth. It wasn’t a nightmare, but definitely not as smooth as my experience. I guess with budget insurers, it really depends on the complexity of the claim and maybe even who you get assigned to... Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes not so much.

It’s definitely a mixed bag. My old Mustang got rear-ended last year, and dealing with the budget insurer was like pulling teeth—lots of hoops, lots of waiting. On the flip side, my neighbor’s claim was sorted in a week. Guess it’s a bit of a lottery, honestly.

Honestly, I’ve wondered if it comes down to who’s handling your file that day. I’ve had three claims in the last five years (yeah, not proud), and each one was a totally different experience—even with the same company. Did you notice if your neighbor had a different adjuster or maybe a higher-tier policy? I always ask about response times and claim processes now, but it still feels like a gamble. Maybe it’s just luck... or maybe I’m just cursed with paperwork.
