Definitely get where you’re coming from—insurance companies really don’t seem to care about the extra steps we take to protect our cars unless it’s something super rare or collectible. I went through the same thing when I got my coupe. I asked about climate-controlled storage, ceramic coating, even special alarms… nada. It’s frustrating, but like you said, it’s mostly for our own peace of mind. Regular washes and keeping up with maintenance is probably the best bet for daily drivers here. At least you know you’re doing what you can, even if it doesn’t show up on your policy.

That’s been my experience too, and honestly, it bugs me a little. I remember when I first moved out here, I went through this whole checklist—found a spot with covered parking, invested in a dashcam, even logged all my maintenance. Figured it’d help my rate. Nope. The agent basically shrugged and said unless I had some vintage ride, none of that would make a dent.

Here’s what actually worked for me: first, I shopped around every year (even if it’s a hassle), because rates change fast out here. Second, I bundled with my renter’s policy—saved maybe 10%? Not huge, but better than nothing. Third, I asked about mileage discounts since I mostly just do weekend trips. That one surprised me; they knocked a bit off since my odometer barely moves during the week.

Still feels weird that all the extra effort is just “peace of mind,” but at least the car stays in good shape for those road trips. Guess we just have to do what we can and not expect much love from the insurers...

Honestly, I’ve actually had a different experience with the dashcam thing. My insurer didn’t lower my rate, but they did say it could help if there’s ever a claim—like, less hassle proving fault. Not a discount, but maybe worth it for avoiding headaches later. Bundling and mileage discounts definitely made more of a difference for me too, though. The rest just feels like extra work for my own sanity...

That’s spot on. In claims, dashcam footage can really speed things up—sometimes it’s the difference between weeks of back-and-forth and a quick resolution. Not every company gives a discount for it, but it can save you from a drawn-out headache if something happens. Bundling and mileage discounts are usually more reliable for actual savings, though. I’ve seen folks get frustrated trying to chase every possible discount, but honestly, focusing on the big ones tends to pay off more in the long run.

Yeah, I get what you mean about not chasing every tiny discount. I tried asking my agent about dashcam savings and got the same “no discount, but it helps with claims” answer. Still, feels like cheap insurance for peace of mind, honestly. Bundling’s been the only thing that actually made a dent in my rate so far.
