I hear you on the bundling worries, but I’m not totally convinced it’s always a bad move. I’ve got a couple of cars that aren’t exactly cheap to fix, and when my oldest started driving, I was sweating bullets about what a fender bender would do to my rates. But honestly, when I ran the numbers, the bundled rate with accident forgiveness (even if it’s just for the first mishap) still came out way better than two separate policies. Yeah, there’s risk if your kid is super accident-prone, but if they’re careful—or you set some ground rules—it might not be as scary as it seems.
I will say though, those usage-based discounts can be a lifesaver if your teen isn’t driving much. My insurance app tracks everything now... kind of creepy, but it did knock a chunk off our premium. Just wish Hawaii rates weren’t so brutal to begin with.
