Honestly, I’d rather play it safe and report it too. Even a tiny tap can mess with stuff under the surface—my friend once had a “no damage” bump that turned into a $600 sensor fix. Not fun. Insurance headaches are way worse than just filing a report, in my experience. Better safe than sorry, even if it feels like overkill.

I get where you’re coming from. Had a similar thing years back—barely touched a guy’s bumper, thought nothing of it. Months later, he called about a weird electrical issue and it turned into a whole ordeal. Ever since, I just report it, even if it feels like overkill at the time. Peace of mind is worth a lot, especially when you’re trying to avoid surprise expenses down the road.

That’s a fair point about peace of mind. I’ve always wondered if reporting every tiny bump is actually necessary, though. Sometimes it feels like insurance companies just use it as an excuse to hike up your rates, even if nothing comes of it. Have you ever had a claim where you reported minor contact and it ended up being nothing, or does it usually turn into a bigger hassle?

I had a minor scrape in a parking lot once—barely noticeable. I reported it just to be safe, and honestly, it turned into a paperwork headache for nothing. No claim, but my rates still crept up. Sometimes I think it’s more trouble than it’s worth unless there’s obvious damage.

I totally get the frustration. I’ve seen people go through a ton of hassle over tiny scrapes that never led to a claim, just like you described. Honestly, unless there’s clear damage or someone’s asking for your info, it’s usually not required to report every little bump. The thing is, once it’s on record—even if it’s nothing—insurance companies can use it as a reason to nudge your rates up. It feels like you’re doing the right thing, but sometimes it backfires.

One time, I barely tapped a car while parking. No marks, both of us checked and agreed it was fine. We just left it at that and nothing ever came of it. If there’s no visible damage and everyone’s cool, I’d say don’t overthink it. The paperwork and possible rate hike just aren’t worth it for a non-issue.
