bumped someone's car lightly, no visible damage—should I report?

"modern electronics can be finicky."

True, but I'd say that's more the exception than the rule. A gentle tap usually doesn't mess with sensors unless it actually shifts something inside—had a similar bump in a rental last summer, checked thoroughly and never had an issue afterward. It's good to be cautious, sure, but reporting every tiny tap can sometimes cause unnecessary headaches...especially if there's genuinely no visible damage.

Yeah, I generally agree with your point—modern electronics aren't quite as fragile as some people think. While it's always smart to err on the side of caution, tiny bumps rarely cause hidden issues if there's no visible damage. Most sensors and cameras are designed to handle everyday vibrations and minor taps without glitching out. Of course, every situation's different, but usually these small incidents end up being non-issues...just something to keep in mind.

I totally get where you're coming from, and usually that's true. But speaking from experience, I once had a minor bump—literally no visible scratch or dent—and thought nothing of it. A couple weeks later, my parking sensor started randomly beeping for no reason. Turned out the sensor had shifted slightly, causing intermittent false alarms. It wasn't a huge deal, but it did cost me a bit to get it recalibrated.

So, while you're right that modern electronics are pretty resilient, sometimes even minor impacts can cause subtle alignment or calibration issues that aren't immediately obvious. Personally, I'd still recommend reporting it just to cover all bases. Better safe than sorry, especially if it's someone else's vehicle...

Yeah, sensors can be annoyingly sensitive sometimes. Had a similar thing happen with my backup camera—barely tapped a pole, zero visible damage, but afterward the camera angle was slightly off. Didn't even notice until I almost backed into something else later on. Ended up costing more than I'd hoped to recalibrate. Makes me wonder if it's worth reporting every tiny bump just to avoid surprise expenses down the road...

Had something similar happen recently. Barely nudged a parked car—no visible scratches or dents, but I still left a note just in case. Glad I did, because the owner later claimed their parking sensor was acting weird afterward. Insurance sorted it out, but it made me realize even tiny bumps can cause hidden issues. I'd probably report just to be safe... better than an unexpected bill later.
