Finding decent car insurance in Delaware without losing your mind

I’d rather pay for peace of mind than get caught out with a dead battery in the rain.

I totally get that. I just started looking at policies and honestly, all the “extras” felt like overkill at first. But after hearing stories like yours, I’m leaning toward more coverage. My plan is: make a list of must-haves (like roadside), compare at least three quotes, and double-check what’s actually included before signing anything. Delaware’s rules are confusing, but I’d rather be safe than sorry - especially on those icy roads.

Honestly, I get the urge to pile on the extras, but sometimes I wonder if it’s just the insurance companies upselling us. I’ve had basic coverage for years and only needed roadside once - ended up calling AAA instead because it was faster. Not saying skip it all, but sometimes those “peace of mind” add-ons don’t actually get used much. Just my two cents...

I get what you mean, but have you ever actually needed to file a claim for something big? I used to think the same way until a deer totaled my old car. Suddenly, those “extras” didn’t seem so pointless. Do you think it’s worth risking a bigger out-of-pocket hit just to save a few bucks on premiums? Or is it just about rolling the dice and hoping for the best?

Honestly, I used to think all those add-ons were just ways for insurance companies to squeeze more money out of us, but after my wife’s minivan got rear-ended and we had to deal with rental coverage, I started looking at things differently. The extra cost felt annoying until we actually needed it. Still, I get why people want to cut back - premiums are no joke these days.

Do you guys ever compare rates every year, or do you just stick with the same company out of convenience? I’ve found that switching every couple of years can shave off a surprising amount, but then there’s always the hassle of redoing paperwork and making sure nothing falls through the cracks. Just curious if anyone here actually bothers with that or if most folks just ride it out for the long haul.

I used to just stick with the same company because, honestly, the idea of switching felt like a pain. But last year my rates jumped for no reason, so I finally shopped around. Ended up saving almost $300 a year, which blew my mind. The paperwork was annoying but not as bad as I expected. Still, I get nervous about missing some tiny detail and getting burned later. Insurance companies don’t exactly make it easy to trust them... but loyalty doesn’t seem to pay off either.
