Yeah, Delaware’s a tough one for deals, especially if you’ve got any dings on your record. I tried the pay-per-mile thing too, but

“those random long drives really add up.”
Couldn’t agree more. My rates shot up after one speeding ticket and it feels like every company just sees me as a walking surcharge now. I’ve noticed sometimes the smaller, local insurers are a little more forgiving than the big names, but you have to watch the fine print. The yearly hike is just part of the game—threatening to switch is basically the only move that works for me, too.

Right? I thought pay-per-mile was gonna be my secret hack, but then I had to drive to Philly twice in one week and—poof—there goes the “savings.” I swear, it’s like they know exactly when you’re gonna have a weird month and just wait to pounce.

About the smaller insurers, I’ve heard mixed things. One friend swears by her local agent, says he actually calls her back and everything. But then I read a bunch of reviews where people said their rates shot up after the first year, or they got weird fees tacked on. Is that just a Delaware thing, or does that happen everywhere? I feel like I’m always missing some tiny clause in the paperwork.

The yearly hike is the most annoying part for me, honestly. I haven’t even had a claim and my rate still creeps up. Is threatening to switch really that effective? I’ve never actually tried it—always felt a little awkward, like I’m bluffing in a poker game but I’ve only got a pair of twos. Do they actually call your bluff, or do they offer you something to stay?

Also, does anyone else get those “accident forgiveness” offers and wonder if it’s worth it? I’m a new-ish driver, so I keep thinking it’s like paying for a get-out-of-jail-free card, but maybe it’s just another way to squeeze a few more bucks out of us.

Delaware insurance is starting to feel like a maze with no exit. Or maybe I just need to stop driving so much... but then how am I supposed to get to Wawa at midnight?

I’ve tried the “I might leave” thing, and honestly, sometimes they just shrug and let you walk. Other times, they’ll throw in a small discount or drop some random fee. It feels like there’s no real pattern. About accident forgiveness—I’m not sure it’s worth it unless you’re genuinely worried about messing up. Anyone ever actually used it after a fender bender? Did it save you money in the end, or just give peace of mind?

I get where you’re coming from, but I actually think accident forgiveness is underrated. I used it after a minor rear-end (my fault, ugh), and my rate didn’t budge. Without it, my premium would’ve jumped big time. For me, it’s less about peace of mind and more about not getting hammered financially for one dumb mistake. If you’re a cautious driver but know nobody’s perfect, it’s not the worst safety net to have.

Honestly, I’ve seen accident forgiveness save people a ton of hassle. One question though—did your insurer limit how often you could use it? Some companies only “forgive” the first accident in a certain period. Also, the extra cost can add up over time if you never file a claim. But yeah, if you’ve got a lead foot or just bad luck with parking lots, it can be a lifesaver. Curious if anyone’s actually compared the added premium to the potential hike after a claim...
