Guess it’s just about what helps you sleep at night.

That really nails it. I went back and forth for ages before raising my deductible, and yeah, it stings when you have to pay out of pocket. But like you mentioned, if you’ve got a little emergency fund tucked away, the math usually works out in your favor long term. There’s always that “what if” worry, but honestly, I’d rather keep my premiums lower and just hope I don’t have to use it much. It’s a bit of a gamble either way, but as long as you’re comfortable with your choice, that’s what matters.

Yeah, that “what if” is always lurking. I crunched the numbers a few years back and realized I’d basically paid for two fender benders in premiums alone. Still, the first time I had to cough up that higher deductible, it stung... but not as much as paying those high monthly bills forever. It’s all about what you can stomach, really.

I get where you’re coming from, but after my neighbor’s car got totaled in a freak hailstorm, I started thinking twice about those “what ifs.” I’d rather pay a bit more each month and not panic if something big happens. Guess I’m just wired to play it safe.

Totally get wanting that peace of mind. I used to think the same way, but after a couple of years with higher premiums (thanks to my driving record...), I started questioning if it was worth it for me.

- Paying more monthly does take the edge off those “what if” moments, especially with crazy weather.
- On the flip side, sometimes I wonder if I’m just throwing money away when nothing happens for years.
- Guess it’s all about what helps you sleep at night. No shame in playing it safe—especially after seeing what happened to your neighbor’s car. That’d freak me out too.

- Higher premiums can sting, especially if you’re not filing claims often.
- On the flip side, a lower deductible means less out of pocket if something does happen—like that hailstorm last spring that trashed half my block’s cars.
- Ever tried running the numbers for a higher deductible/lower premium combo? Sometimes it’s surprising how much you can save over a few years if you don’t have many claims.
- Curious if anyone’s actually switched back and forth and noticed a real difference in their wallet?
