Haha, "acts of squirrels"—that's a new one for me. But seriously, insurance can get really weird sometimes. A few years back, I lent my car to my cousin for a weekend, and he ended up hitting a pothole so big it cracked the rim. Thought it was a straightforward claim, but nope...turns out my policy had some obscure clause about "road surface hazards" not being covered. I mean, isn't that exactly what insurance should be for?

Anyway, after that experience, I started doing two things:

- Checking with my insurance beforehand if someone else is driving my car regularly. Usually, it's fine occasionally, but frequent use by someone else can get tricky.
- Asking specifically about weird exclusions—like animals, potholes, or even weather-related stuff. You'd be surprised how many random things aren't covered.

Insurance is definitely one of those things you don't wanna learn about the hard way...

Yeah, insurance can be super weird about potholes. Had something similar happen last winter—hit a pothole hidden under slush and ended up bending the suspension arm. Thought it'd be covered, but nope...apparently "road maintenance issues" weren't included in my policy either. Makes me wonder, what exactly am I paying for if not random road hazards? Definitely worth double-checking those fine-print exclusions next renewal.

- Honestly, potholes are a tricky area—seen it plenty at work.
- Policies usually cover sudden accidental damage, but potholes get lumped into "wear and tear" or maintenance issues.
- Frustrating, I know...always worth pushing back gently though, sometimes adjusters can reconsider borderline cases.

Had a pothole claim last year—insurance actually covered it without much fuss. Might depend more on your insurer or even the adjuster you get...not always black and white. Worth double-checking your policy specifics.

Had a similar thing happen when my brother borrowed my car and dinged someone's bumper. Insurance got involved, and it was a bit messy at first, but surprisingly they sorted it out pretty smoothly once they confirmed he had permission to drive. Definitely agree it depends on the insurer and adjuster—mine was pretty chill about it. Still, always good to double-check your policy details beforehand... saves a headache later.
