My experience aligns pretty closely with yours. Usually, insurers don't pay much attention to mileage unless something triggers it—like renewing or filing a claim. But I wouldn't underestimate their diligence either. Had a coworker who got questioned about mileage discrepancies during renewal, and it was awkward enough that he switched insurers afterward...

"Better safe than sorry, I guess..."

Yeah, exactly my thinking. Even if it's mostly an honor system, keeping accurate info is probably the smartest bet in the long run.

Yeah, totally agree. Had a similar issue myself—lent my Audi to a buddy for a weekend, and when he had a minor fender-bender, the insurance grilled me on mileage and usage. Felt like an interrogation... Lesson learned: insurers can get picky real fast if something seems off. Better to keep everything accurate upfront than deal with that headache later.

Yeah, insurance companies can really get particular about stuff like that... Did you have your friend listed as an occasional driver beforehand or was he totally off their radar? I've always been cautious—especially with my classics—too much hassle if something goes sideways.

Yeah, totally agree with being cautious, especially as someone who's pretty new to insurance. When I got mine, the agent specifically advised me to list anyone who might regularly borrow my car—even if it's just once in a while—because insurers can be picky about unlisted drivers. They said it's better to pay a bit extra upfront than risk coverage issues later. Honestly, after hearing your story, I'm glad I followed their advice... seems worth the peace of mind.

I've always been skeptical about listing extra drivers—seemed like just another upsell. But your experience makes me reconsider... Did your agent say anything about occasional drivers who have their own insurance?
