Just found out from my neighbor that if you're over a certain age (think it's around 55 or so?), you can take a short driving refresher course and your insurance company might give you a pretty decent discount. Had no idea this was even a thing, but apparently it's legit. My neighbor saved like 10% or something. Might be worth checking out if you're looking to shave a few bucks off your premiums. Anyone tried this or know other sneaky ways to lower insurance?

This is actually a pretty common discount, though surprisingly few people know about it. I had a client last year who was skeptical at first—he thought it sounded too good to be true—but after taking the refresher course, he ended up saving around 12% on his premium. Not bad for just a few hours of his time.

Another thing worth checking out is bundling your policies if you haven't already. Combining home and auto insurance with the same provider can often net you a decent discount. Also, some insurers offer discounts if you drive fewer miles annually or install a telematics device that tracks safe driving habits. I know not everyone loves the idea of being monitored, but if you're comfortable with it, the savings can be substantial.

Just keep in mind, discounts vary quite a bit between companies, so it's always worth shopping around every couple of years to make sure you're still getting the best deal.

Did the refresher course thing myself last year—wasn't expecting much, but ended up saving about 10%. Bundling didn't do much for me though... guess it really depends on your insurer. Worth checking around every now and then.
