Does a hybrid schedule qualify for a low-mileage discount?

I’m trying to estimate whether a mileage-based policy quote is worth requesting for someone who now commutes only two days a week. The round trip is about 30 miles, and annual driving would likely be around 7,000 to 8,000 miles after adding errands and occasional longer trips.

How do insurers usually handle this kind of hybrid schedule?

- Is there a typical annual-mileage threshold for a low-mileage discount, or does it vary entirely by insurer and state?
- Do they verify mileage through odometer readings at renewal, an inspection, or periodic self-reporting?
- If an insurer offers an app for mileage tracking, is that separate from a telematics driving-score program?
- Would commuting two days weekly be treated differently from pleasure driving when calculating eligibility?

I’m also trying to compare the possible discount with other options, such as bundling policies, paying annually, or a multi-car discount. If the insurer’s threshold is below 7,000 miles, it may not be worth changing anything, but I’d like to know what information to have ready before asking for a mileage-based quote.
