I mean, what’s the harm in a good car cover if it keeps things tidy?

- I get the logic, but I've seen covered cars turn into "permanent fixtures" in some neighborhoods. Not always, but sometimes they just sit there for years.
- Those covers can get pretty ratty too—wind tears, sun fading, all that.
- City probably cares more about things looking “active” than actually being tidy. A driveway with a rotating set of cars looks lived-in, but two covered cars under faded tarps? Starts to feel abandoned, even if it’s not.
- Not saying I agree with every code, but I kinda get why they’re strict. Just depends how people actually use (or abuse) the rules.

I get what you’re saying. I’ve seen cars under covers that basically become part of the scenery—like, nobody’s touched them in ages. But if someone actually maintains the cover and swaps it out when it gets gross, is it really that bad? I guess it’s a fine line between “stored classic” and “abandoned eyesore.”

I totally get the “fine line” thing.

If someone’s actually taking care of it, swapping out the cover, maybe even moving the car now and then, it’s not really fair to lump it in with cars that are just left to rot. I’ve got a neighbor who covers his old Mustang, but he’s always out there making sure it looks tidy. Doesn’t bother me at all. It’s when things get neglected that it starts to look rough.

Yeah, I hear you. There’s a big difference between someone who’s clearly into their car and just doesn’t have garage space, versus a car that’s been sitting flat-tired and mossy for years. I get why the city wants to crack down, but sometimes it feels like they’re painting with too broad a brush. My uncle’s got an old Camaro he keeps spotless under a tarp—looks way better than some “daily drivers” on the street, honestly.

Totally get where you’re coming from.
- There’s a world of difference between a classic kept up under a tarp and an abandoned junker.
- Not everyone has the luxury of a garage, but that doesn’t mean they don’t care about their car.
- These blanket rules can end up punishing people who are actually preserving history, not just letting things rot.
- I’ve seen plenty of “daily drivers” leaking oil and looking rough—nobody bats an eye at those.
Guess it just comes down to how the city enforces things... sometimes it feels like common sense gets lost in the paperwork.
