sometimes it feels like you’re paying to *not* enjoy your own car

That’s the kicker, right? I always wonder if the cap actually saves me money or just makes me paranoid every time I want to take a spontaneous drive. Anyone else ever feel like they’re sneaking cookies from the jar when they check their odometer?

I get what you mean about feeling like you’re “sneaking cookies from the jar”—that’s a pretty accurate way to put it. But is it really that bad if you’re not driving your classic every day anyway? I’m new to this, but I figured the cap would just keep me honest about using it for special occasions, not errands or commutes. Does it actually end up being a hassle for most people, or is it just a mental thing? Maybe the peace of mind from lower premiums balances out the paranoia?

- Totally get where you're coming from. For me, the cap is more of a mental speed bump than a real hassle.
- I commute daily (not in the classic, obviously), so my “fun” car only comes out on weekends or for meets. The mileage cap hasn’t actually limited me yet.
- That said, I do find myself double-checking the odometer after a longer trip, just to make sure I’m not creeping up on the limit. It’s not exactly paranoia, but there’s always that little voice in the back of my head.
- Lower premiums are a big plus. Honestly, if I had to pay full price for insurance on a car I drive maybe 1,500 miles a year, it wouldn’t be worth keeping it.
- Only real downside: if you get invited to an unexpected road trip or want to take the scenic route home, you might hesitate. That’s where it can feel restrictive.

In practice, as long as you’re not tempted to daily your classic, it’s probably more of a psychological thing than an actual problem. But yeah... sometimes I wish I could just drive without thinking about it.

Honestly, you nailed it—most folks never hit the cap unless they’re really stretching what “occasional use” means. The savings are hard to beat if you’re just cruising on weekends. I get the odometer anxiety, though... it’s like a weird little game of “how much fun can I have before I pay for it?” But for most, it’s a fair trade-off.

I get the appeal, but I’m always a bit nervous about those mileage caps. I commute a fair bit, and even though I try to keep my classic off the daily grind, there are times when life just gets in the way—unexpected errands, last-minute trips, that sort of thing. Has anyone ever run into issues with their insurer if they accidentally went over the limit? I’ve heard stories about claims being denied, but not sure how common that actually is...
