I get where you’re coming from, but honestly, I think the mileage cap is overblown as a concern for most folks. If you’re budgeting and planning your outings, it’s not that hard to stay under. I’ve run into the odd year where I was close, but a quick call to my insurer let me bump up the cap for a small fee—way cheaper than paying full price all year. Unless you’re driving your classic every weekend, those premiums are worth the minor hassle.

Yeah, I agree with this. I’ve had a couple years where I went over the cap (I drive more than I should, honestly), but my insurer just adjusted it for a bit more cash—no drama. The cap’s not as scary as it sounds unless you’re racking up miles constantly. For me, the savings still make it worthwhile, even if I have to call in once or twice.

I get where you’re coming from. I’ve never had a classic, but even with my daily driver, I always worry about those mileage limits on insurance. My family’s always piling in for random road trips or errands, so I’d probably blow past the cap without even realizing it. The idea of having to call in and adjust things sounds like a hassle, but maybe it’s not as bad as I imagine? Still, the savings are tempting... just not sure if I could keep track of the miles with kids and all.

Honestly, I’ve wondered about this too. Keeping track of mileage just seems like one more thing to stress over—especially with kids, snacks, and random detours. I guess the savings are nice, but I’d probably forget to update them until it’s too late. Maybe there’s an app for it? Or maybe I’m just overthinking...

I get where you’re coming from—juggling mileage tracking with everything else going on can feel like one more thing to remember. When I first switched over to a classic policy for my coupe, I was convinced I’d mess it up or forget to call in if I went over the cap. Turns out, it’s not as stressful as I thought.

Most insurers I’ve dealt with are actually pretty flexible. If you realize you’re getting close to your annual limit, a quick call or even an email is usually all it takes to bump it up. Some companies have apps now that let you check your mileage and policy details, which helps if you’re prone to forgetting (I am). It’s not totally seamless, but it’s not the nightmare I pictured either.

I do think the savings are worth it, especially if your classic isn’t your daily driver. The difference in premiums compared to standard insurance can be significant. That said, if you’re using the car for family outings and spontaneous trips, it’s easy to lose track. I started keeping a little notebook in the glovebox—old school, but effective when the kids are distracting me and my phone’s buried under snack wrappers.

Honestly, once you settle into a routine, it becomes second nature. Just takes a bit of adjustment at first. And if you ever do go over by a few miles, most companies aren’t out to get you—they just want to keep things fair.

You’re definitely not overthinking it. It’s a valid concern, but in practice, it’s usually less of a hassle than it sounds.
