“We’d been careful with mileage, but it was still nerve-wracking. I’d rather pay a bit more than stress every time we take it out for a drive.”

I get where you’re coming from, but honestly, I just can’t justify paying extra for the “what ifs.” My daily driver racks up miles fast, so I keep the classic strictly for weekends and special stuff. Never had anyone check my odometer unless there was a claim. Maybe I’m rolling the dice, but the savings add up for me. If they ever start checking randomly, I might rethink it... but until then, I’ll take my chances.

That’s interesting, because I’ve heard stories about people getting burned when they went over their cap and then had a claim.

“Never had anyone check my odometer unless there was a claim.”
Is it just an honor system until something happens? Makes me wonder how strict different companies are about it.

Yeah, it’s pretty much the honor system until you file a claim—then suddenly everyone cares about your odometer. I’ve had classic policies for years and never once had anyone ask about mileage unless something happened. But I’ve heard of people getting denied because they went over, so it’s a gamble. Some companies are stricter than others, but if you’re even close to the cap, I’d be careful. It’s not worth saving a few bucks if it means risking coverage when you actually need it.

I get what you’re saying, but honestly, how do they even check unless you’re in an accident? I’ve pushed the limit a couple times and never heard a peep. Anyone actually had them ask for proof at renewal, or is it always after a claim?

I’ve wondered about this too—like, are they really tracking every mile unless something happens? I’ve never been asked for odometer pics or anything at renewal, just the usual paperwork. But I did hear from a buddy that after his minor fender-bender, the insurance folks wanted a bunch of details, including mileage. Makes me think they mostly check when there’s money on the line, not just routine stuff. Does make you wonder how much risk you’re actually taking by going over...
