Honestly, I’m with you on the “what ifs.” I try to keep my miles low, but then something always pops up—like my cousin’s moving day or a last-minute road trip. I get wanting to save, but doubling the premium just for a few extra miles? That stings. Makes me wonder if it’s even worth the stress of tracking every drive. Anyone else ever fudge the odometer a bit, or is that just asking for trouble?

Here’s my take: step one, don’t mess with the odometer. That’s a fast track to headaches if you ever need to make a claim. Step two, if you’re always stressing about miles, maybe classic insurance isn’t the right fit. I tried it for a year—felt like I was babysitting my own car. Missed out on stuff just to keep under the cap. Not worth it for me, honestly.

That’s pretty much how I felt too. I gave classic insurance a shot because the rates looked great, but tracking every mile got old fast. I’d find myself skipping weekend drives just to avoid going over. The whole point of having a classic is to enjoy it, not worry about every trip to the store.

I wouldn’t risk fudging the odometer either. If something happens and your numbers don’t add up, you’re just asking for denied claims or worse. It’s not worth the hassle.

In the end, I switched back to regular insurance. Costs a bit more, but at least I don’t have to stress about mileage caps or keeping a logbook in the glovebox. For me, peace of mind is worth the extra few bucks.

I get where you’re coming from, but I’ve actually had a different experience with the mileage cap. Maybe it’s just my routine, but I rarely hit the limit—my classic’s more of a weekend project than a daily driver. The savings are worth it for me, even if I have to say no to an extra cruise here and there. Guess it depends on how often you really want to take it out. For some folks, the tradeoff isn’t that bad.

Honestly, I hear you on the savings, but man, those mileage caps can sneak up on you. Had a customer once who swore he’d never hit his limit... until he started taking “just a few” extra drives during a nice spring. Next thing he knew, he was rationing miles like it was gas in the ‘70s. I get the appeal of lower premiums, but sometimes peace of mind is worth a few extra bucks if you’re the spontaneous type. Just depends how much you trust your own self-control, I guess.
