Most policies give a little buffer before penalties kick in, too, so it’s not always as strict as it sounds.

That’s good to know—always wondered how closely they actually check. Has anyone ever gotten dinged for going over? I’m tempted by the savings, but I’d hate to get caught out just because I took an extra Sunday drive.

That’s what’s always made me hesitate too. On paper, the mileage cap looks generous, but I commute a lot and it’s easy to lose track. I’ve heard they mostly check if there’s a claim, but not sure how strict they are in practice. Anyone ever had to file and get questioned about mileage? Feels like a bit of a gamble—great savings if you’re confident you’ll stay under, but maybe not worth the stress if you’re close to the edge. Do they just go off your odometer, or is there some other tracking?

I’ve actually had a claim with Hagerty, and they did ask for my odometer reading. They didn’t grill me, but it was clear they’d have noticed if I was way over. I wouldn’t risk it if you’re even close to the cap—savings aren’t worth the headache if you get denied later. Some companies do random checks, too, not just at claim time.

Yeah, I’ve seen that play out more than once—folks think they’re in the clear, then get tripped up by mileage at claim time. It’s tempting to squeeze a few extra miles, but honestly, it’s just not worth the stress. I always tell people, the peace of mind is worth more than a couple bucks saved.

- Been there, done that—pushed the cap one year and got flagged when I had to file a claim.
- Insurance company wanted proof of mileage, and my odometer didn’t lie... Ended up with a denied claim.
- Now I track everything. It’s kind of a pain, but way less stressful than dealing with a rejected payout.
- Honestly, those few extra miles just aren’t worth it if you’re already considered a risk.
- If you need more miles, better to call and adjust the policy before it bites you later.
