Why can’t I use my points AND a coupon at checkout?

Yeah, I’ve run into that too. It’s like they want you to jump through hoops just to use the rewards you’ve earned. I get that stores have policies, but if the app says stacking is allowed, shouldn’t they honor it? Feels a bit shady. I always double-check the fine print now, just in case.

I tried to use my points and a coupon at checkout once, and the cashier looked at me like I was trying to rob the place. I swear, it’s like they make the rules up as they go. Now I just expect to get denied and treat it as a bonus if it actually works.

That’s honestly how it feels sometimes. I remember standing there, fumbling with my phone, trying to pull up the app for my points, and the cashier just sighed like I’d asked for the moon. I get that there are rules, but half the time I’m not even sure what they are. Maybe it’s just a way to keep us guessing? I’ve started treating it like a game—if both work, it’s a win. If not, oh well, at least I tried.

I’ve run into this too, and honestly, it’s kind of frustrating. I get wanting to save as much as possible—especially with prices these days—but it feels like they make the rules intentionally confusing. Sometimes the cashier will just scan both and see what sticks, but other times they act like you’re breaking some secret code.

I’ve noticed some stores are stricter than others. Like, at one grocery chain near me, they’ll let you stack points and coupons no problem, but at another place, it’s always “one or the other.” I’ve even had cashiers tell me different things on different days. Makes me wonder if even they know what the actual policy is.

Has anyone actually read the fine print on these rewards programs? I tried once but gave up halfway through—felt like reading a legal contract. Is it just a way for them to limit how much we can save, or is there some technical reason behind it? I’m all for playing by the rules, but it’d be nice if the rules were actually clear.

Curious if anyone’s ever pushed back and gotten both to work anyway. Or is it just luck of the draw depending on who’s at the register?

Honestly, I feel you on this. It’s like every time I think I’ve figured out the system, they switch it up. I’ve had cashiers just shrug and try both, and sometimes it works, sometimes not. Once, the manager came over and even they seemed unsure. It really does feel like a game of chance depending on who’s working that day. I don’t think you’re crazy for being frustrated—it shouldn’t be this complicated just to save a few bucks.
