how do you guys handle asking for better deals from places you're loyal to?

I've been going to the same local coffee shop for like three years now, pretty much every morning before work. They know my order by heart, and sometimes even have it ready before I walk in (yeah, I'm predictable lol). Anyway, I was chatting with a friend who mentioned that she gets discounts at her regular spots just by casually mentioning how often she comes in or joking about being a "frequent flyer."

I never really thought about asking for discounts or perks just because I'm a regular customer. It feels kinda awkward, you know? Like, I don't wanna seem entitled or anything. But at the same time, it'd be nice to save a few bucks here and there since I'm literally there every day.

Have any of you tried casually bringing up loyalty discounts or perks at places you're a regular? How'd it go? Did you feel weird about it afterward or did it actually work out pretty well? Curious to hear some experiences before I embarrass myself trying it out...

Yeah, I totally get that awkwardness. I've never directly asked for discounts either, but one time at my regular sandwich place, I jokingly said something like, "You guys should name this sandwich after me by now," and the owner laughed and gave me a free cookie. Felt a bit weird afterward, but hey, free cookie... Maybe just keep it casual and see how they react?

Yeah, I feel you on that awkwardness. I've never been comfortable outright asking for discounts either, but sometimes I'll casually mention a competitor's price or a deal I saw online. Like once, at my usual mechanic, I mentioned seeing cheaper oil changes elsewhereβ€”not even trying to haggleβ€”and he ended up matching the price without me directly asking. Felt kinda sneaky afterward, but hey... saved me a few bucks. Guess subtlety can pay off sometimes?
