I'm finally getting my own car insurance sorted out, and um, I didn't realize how many papers and stuff they ask for. Thought I'd share what I figured out so far, in case anyone else is as clueless as I was at first, haha.
First, obviously, driver's license. They wanna see it's valid and all that. Then, proof of address—like a utility bill or bank statement. I used my phone bill, worked fine. Next, vehicle registration papers, which makes sense, I guess. And they asked me about my driving history, so I had to dig up some info on past tickets (thankfully none!) and accidents.
Also, turns out some insurers ask for proof of employment or income, which surprised me a bit. Had to get a pay stub scanned. Oh, and I almost forgot—if you're a student, some places give discounts if you show grades or enrollment proof.
Anyway, that's what I got so far. Anyone else know if I'm missing something important or maybe have tips to make this whole process less annoying?
