Totally get where you’re coming from. I used to think the same—drive safe, keep my record clean, and I’ll be fine. But last year, my neighbor’s teen got into a minor accident, and the other driver’s medical bills ended up way over the minimum coverage. Their family had to dip into college savings just to cover the difference. It’s wild how fast those costs add up. I did the math and bumped up my liability limits; honestly, it was like $10 more a month. Not nothing, but way less than what an accident could cost. The state minimums just don’t keep up with real-world expenses anymore.

That’s a good point—medical bills can get ridiculous fast, even for what seems like a fender bender. But do you ever wonder if there’s a sweet spot with coverage? Like, how much is too much? I bumped mine up a bit after seeing a friend’s accident costs, but sometimes I wonder if I’m just paying for peace of mind. Is there a magic number, or are we all just guessing? California’s minimums really do feel stuck in the past though... especially with how expensive everything is now.

I’ve wondered the same thing, honestly. Years ago, I stuck with the bare minimum because I figured, “What are the odds?” Then my neighbor’s kid rear-ended someone and the bills were way past what insurance covered. Made me rethink it real quick. But yeah, sometimes I look at my premium and think, am I just paying for a “what if” that might never happen? Has anyone actually had to use their higher coverage, or is it mostly just for peace of mind?

I get where you’re coming from. I used to think the same—why pay more when you might never need it? But a few years back, my cousin got into a fender bender that turned into a way bigger deal than anyone expected. The other driver claimed injuries, and suddenly the costs were through the roof. Their “minimum” policy barely scratched the surface, and the rest came out of pocket. That was a wake-up call for me.

I still grumble every time I see my premium, not gonna lie. But after seeing how fast things can spiral, I figure it’s better than risking my savings or getting sued. It’s not just about peace of mind, either—California’s medical and repair bills are no joke. I guess it’s one of those things you hope you never need, but if you do, you’ll be glad you didn’t skimp. Still, sometimes I wonder if there’s a sweet spot between overpaying and being underinsured...

Yeah, I totally get the frustration with those premiums—sometimes it feels like you’re just throwing money away. But honestly, I’ve seen way too many cases where folks thought the minimum would cover them, and then a single accident wiped out their savings. California’s costs are wild, especially if there’s even a hint of injury involved. There probably is a sweet spot, but it’s different for everyone. I always tell people to at least look at what doubling their liability limits would cost—it’s usually not as much as you’d think, and it can make a huge difference if things go sideways.
