Why California’s minimum car insurance might not be enough

I hear you on the snack budget—mine’s basically just gas station coffee and whatever’s left in the glove box these days. Honestly though, I used to think minimum coverage was fine until my coworker got sideswiped. The other driver’s car was a Tesla, and the repair bill was insane. He had to dip into his savings just to cover what insurance didn’t. It’s wild how fast those costs add up. Sometimes I wonder if it’s worth skipping a few streaming subscriptions just to bump up my liability limits. Not fun, but maybe less risky in the long run...

Yeah, I used to roll with the bare minimum too—felt like I was getting away with something. Then my neighbor’s kid rear-ended a BMW and the insurance didn’t even scratch the surface of the repair bill. He’s still paying that off. It’s wild how just one accident can flip your whole budget upside down. I’m not saying everyone needs gold-plated coverage, but man, those Teslas and fancy SUVs on the road make me nervous... Might be time to rethink my priorities, even if it means fewer late-night burritos.

Honestly, I get nervous just thinking about how many luxury cars are in my daily commute. Couple months ago, my buddy clipped a Mercedes in a parking lot—nothing major, but the bill was nuts. The minimum coverage barely helped. Makes me wonder if saving a few bucks each month is worth the risk, especially since you can’t control what other people drive. I’d rather cut back on takeout than gamble with my savings, you know?

Can’t blame you for feeling uneasy—those luxury cars are everywhere around here. I’ve seen people get hit with repair bills that look more like down payments on a house. The minimum coverage in California really is just that... the bare minimum. It’s tempting to save a few bucks, but one fender bender with a Tesla or Benz and suddenly your savings are toast. I always tell folks: insurance is one of those things you hope you never need, but when you do, you want it to actually work for you. Cutting back on takeout sounds way less painful than draining your bank account over a bumper scratch.

I hear you on the repair bills—my buddy tapped the back of a Porsche in a parking lot and the estimate was more than my last road trip cost, start to finish. I get wanting to save money, but honestly, minimum coverage just doesn’t cut it around here. It’s wild how fast things add up, especially with all these high-end cars. I’d rather skip a few lattes than risk getting stuck with a bill that big.
