"Now I set a reminder every year to do a quick check. Takes maybe 15 minutes tops..."
Good call on the yearly reminderβI started doing something similar after a couple speeding tickets bumped me into the high-risk category. Found out pretty fast that loyalty doesn't mean much if your driving record isn't spotless. Now, every renewal, I run quotes from at least three different companies. Sometimes the difference is minimal, but other times I've saved enough to cover a month's worth of gas... definitely worth the hassle.
I hear you on the loyalty thingβlearned that lesson myself a few years back. I'd been with the same insurance company since college, figured they'd treat me right for sticking around. Nope. When I finally took a few minutes to shop around, I realized I'd been paying way more than I needed to for years. Kind of felt like a sucker, honestly.
Now I do pretty much what you guys are doingβset a yearly reminder and run quick quotes online. Last year alone, switching saved me enough cash to upgrade my campsite reservations on our annual Ozarks road trip. Definitely worth those 15 minutes.

Exactly this. Even if it's just twenty or thirty bucks saved, that's still money better spent on snacks or coffee stops along the highway... priorities, right?
I get the appeal of switching regularly, but honestly, I've found sticking with one insurer can pay off sometimes. A couple years ago, I had a minor fender-bender and my longtime company waived the deductible because I'd been with them forever. Saved me way more than the $30 or so I'd have gotten by switching around every year.

True, but peace of mind counts for something too... just my two cents.
I hear you on the peace of mind thing. As someone who's had a few too many close calls (and a couple not-so-close ones...), I used to jump around insurers chasing the lowest price. But honestly, loyalty perks like waived deductibles or accident forgiveness can really save your bacon when things go sideways. Might not always seem worth it upfront, but when you're standing roadside after a fender-bender, knowing your insurer has your back is pretty reassuring. Good call sticking with them.
Yeah, loyalty perks can be a lifesaver, but honestly, as someone who's had more than my fair share of "oops" moments, sometimes even those perks don't outweigh the price hikes. Learned that the hard way... balancing act for sure.
