Yeah, windshield coverage can be tricky—especially if you're regularly hitting gravel roads. I learned the hard way after a road trip through Denali left me with a nasty chip. Protective films might help a bit, but honestly, insurers seem slow to catch on to anything new. Still, don't beat yourself up too much; insurance is always a learning curve, and next renewal you'll know exactly what to look for.

Had a similar issue last winter—commuting daily on the Glenn Highway meant constant gravel spray, ended up with three chips in two months. A few things that helped me:

- Asked my insurer directly about windshield-specific riders; turns out they're available but rarely advertised.
- Found out some local glass shops partner with insurers for discounts if you go through them directly.
- Also learned to check if repairs count as claims—some insurers don't ding your premium for windshield fixes.

Definitely worth digging into the fine print next renewal.

Had a similar experience with my old Mustang—those gravel sprays are brutal. Another thing I found helpful was asking about mileage-based discounts. Since I mostly drive mine on weekends, it shaved a decent chunk off my premium...worth checking out if you're not commuting daily.

Mileage discounts are solid advice, especially up here where distances can be deceiving. Another thing I've noticed is some insurers offer small breaks if you take a defensive driving course—did one last summer, wasn't too painful and saved me a few bucks...worth a shot if you're bored one weekend.

That's a good tip about the defensive driving course—I actually just bought my first insurance policy a couple months ago and had no idea that was even an option. I did stumble onto something similar though: my insurer mentioned a small discount if I downloaded their tracking app. Honestly, at first, I felt a little weird knowing they'd be monitoring my driving habits, but it turned out to be pretty painless. Just had to drive normally for about 90 days, and afterward they gave me a decent discount based on how safe I was (or wasn't, haha). Ended up saving more than I expected, which was nice since every dollar counts right now.

Anyway, glad to hear the defensive driving thing isn't too tedious—I might look into it down the road if it means shaving off a few more bucks. Thanks for sharing your experience!
