I had a similar experience last summer, but weirdly enough, it was with AAA itself. We'd been with them forever, mostly because my parents always swore by them, and I just kinda stuck with it out of habit. Anyway, we were driving back from visiting family, and the car battery decided to die at a rest stop. Not exactly the middle of nowhere, but still pretty inconvenient with two cranky kids and a dog who was NOT happy about the delay.
Called AAA, figuring it'd be quick and easy like always, but nope. Took forever just to get someone on the line, and when I finally did, they said it'd be at least two hours before anyone could get to us. Two hours at a rest stop with kids who'd already eaten all the snacks...yeah, not fun. Ended up getting a jump from a random stranger who thankfully had jumper cables.
Made me wonder if AAA's gotten too big or something. Like, maybe they're stretched thin now? Or maybe it's just luck of the draw. Either way, it definitely made me curious about checking out some smaller insurers next renewal.
That's definitely frustrating, especially with kids and pets involved. I've noticed similar delays lately tooβmaybe they're understaffed or overwhelmed? Either way, exploring smaller insurers might be worth it; sometimes they offer better service at competitive rates.
I've noticed that too lately... makes me wonder if AAA's roadside assistance is now just a guy named Dave with a jumper cable and a sandwich? But seriously, has anyone tried switching and found better luck elsewhere?
Had a similar experience last monthβwaited almost two hours for a simple tire change. Felt like Dave might've been busy finishing his sandwich first... I've been thinking about switching too, but honestly not sure if other services are any better. Curious if anyone's had luck with local providers or even insurance-bundled roadside assistance?

Tried my insurance's bundled roadside assistance last winterβresponse times were decent (around 30-40 mins), but coverage was pretty limited. Anyone know if local garages offer better coverage overall, or is it hit-or-miss?
