anyone else feel like AAA insurance isn't what it used to be?

I had a similar experience last winter when my tire blew out on the highway. Called AAA, and sure enough, the guy who showed up was from some local garage I'd never heard of. Took about 45 mins, pretty standard. But it did make me wonder—if they're all subcontracted anyway, is there really any advantage to paying extra for AAA these days? Seems like you're right:

"Guess it really depends on your location and luck of the draw..."

Maybe it's worth checking out local options directly instead...

I've wondered the same thing lately. AAA used to feel like a safety net, but now it seems more like a middleman. I guess the main advantage is convenience—you don't have to research local garages yourself, especially if you're stuck somewhere unfamiliar. But honestly, I've started keeping a short list of reliable local tow services in my glovebox just in case...feels safer knowing exactly who I'm calling rather than rolling the dice with whoever AAA sends out.

You're definitely onto something there. AAA's main draw has always been convenience, especially when you're stranded somewhere unfamiliar. But having your own trusted contacts handy is a smart move—cuts out the uncertainty. I've seen plenty of clients do exactly what you're doing, and honestly, it can save you time and stress in the long run. Good thinking keeping that list in your glovebox...peace of mind is priceless.

Funny you mention the glovebox—I actually learned that lesson the hard way. A few months back, I got stuck on a rural road with spotty cell service, and AAA took forever to show up. Luckily, a local farmer stopped by and helped me out (nicest guy ever). Made me realize how important it is to have backup contacts handy. Curious though, has anyone noticed if AAA's response times vary significantly depending on location or time of day?

AAA's always been hit or miss for me, to be honest. Had a breakdown once right in the middle of town around lunchtime—figured they'd be quick, right? Nope... waited nearly two hours. Another time, stranded out in the sticks at midnight, they showed up within 30 minutes. Go figure. Seems like luck of the draw sometimes, or maybe just depends on how busy they are. Either way, I keep a few local tow numbers handy now—lesson learned.
