anyone else feel like AAA insurance isn't what it used to be?
- I totally get the frustration with the online forms and waiting. That part’s a drag, no arguing there.
- But honestly, I’ve had a couple of claims in the last few years (one was a deer hit, the other a hail storm), and both times AAA handled things pretty well for me. Maybe it’s just luck, or maybe it depends on which state or office you’re dealing with? I still got to talk to a real person after the initial online stuff.
- About the price hikes - I do think repairs are getting more expensive across the board. Even basic parts seem to cost double what they did five years ago. I’m not saying AAA’s off the hook, but I kinda get why rates keep creeping up.
- Keeping a log is smart. I started doing that too after a mix-up with another company years back. It’s annoying, but it’s saved me more than once.
- Roadside has always been AAA’s strong suit for me too. Had a battery die at 2am in winter and they still showed up fast.
- I’ve shopped around, but honestly, most insurance companies have gone digital-first now. Maybe it’s just how things are moving... not sure anyone’s really doing it “the old way” anymore.
Honestly, I hear you on the price hikes. My last oil change cost more than my first car did. I will say, AAA’s roadside is still clutch - my Benz decided to impersonate a paperweight last month and they got me sorted before my espresso cooled off. The digital stuff is a pain, though. I miss just calling someone and getting a straight answer, not clicking through endless menus. Maybe I’m just getting old... or maybe my car is.
I totally get what you mean about the digital stuff. I just signed up for AAA insurance for the first time, and honestly, figuring out their website was more stressful than picking my actual coverage. I kept thinking, “Is it just me, or did this used to be simpler?” I ended up calling anyway, and after a few rounds of “press 1 for this, press 2 for that,” I finally got a real person. They were super helpful, but getting there was a journey.
I’m curious - has anyone tried using their app for claims or roadside? I haven’t had to yet, but I’m kind of dreading it if it’s anything like the sign-up process. Is it actually easier once you’re set up, or is it just more hoops to jump through?

Honestly, I think the app’s actually not that bad once you get past the setup headache. I’ve used it for roadside twice - first time was a pain, second time was smooth. Still, I miss the days when you could just flash your card and get help, no fuss. All this digital stuff feels like extra steps for no real reason. Maybe I’m just old school, but I’d rather talk to a person than poke around an app when I’m stuck on the side of the road.
I totally get what you mean about wanting to talk to a real person, especially when you’re already stressed. Does anyone know if the app actually gets help out faster, or is it just another layer? I always worry something’ll get lost in translation with these things...
