Title: Anyone else feel like AAA insurance isn't what it used to be?

Jump packs are like that one friend who swears they'll help you move, but when the big day comes, they're suddenly "sick." I had one die on me in a Target parking lot last winter—popped the hood, feeling all MacGyver, and... nothing. Just a sad little click. Turns out, if you leave those things in your trunk through a couple of seasons, they lose their will to live. Or maybe just their charge, but same difference when you’re freezing and late for work.

Honestly, I keep AAA for the peace of mind, but I get what you mean about it not being what it used to. Last time I called them for a tow, it took almost two hours. By then, I’d already made friends with the guy at the gas station and learned more about scratch-off tickets than I ever wanted to know. The roadside kit is great until you realize half the stuff needs to be checked more often than your smoke alarm batteries. And who actually remembers to do that? Not me.

I’ve started treating my jump starter like milk—if it’s been in there too long, it’s probably bad news. But yeah, the idea of ditching AAA makes me nervous too. It’s like canceling your gym membership: you know you never use it, but the second you do, you’ll wish you had it.

Anyway, if anyone’s got a magic solution for remembering to charge those jump packs (besides sticky notes that I ignore), I’m all ears. Until then, I guess I’ll keep rolling the dice and hoping my car battery’s in a good mood.

Honestly, same. I set a reminder on my phone for the first of every month—call it “Jump Pack Juice Day.” It’s not foolproof, but at least my phone nags me more than sticky notes do. Also, I keep the jump pack inside during winter now. Trunk temps are brutal. Maybe not a magic solution, but it beats playing battery roulette in a snowstorm.

Yeah, winter’s rough on those jump packs—and honestly, I’ve seen more folks needing a jump lately because they forgot to recharge or the cold just zapped ‘em. I get the frustration with AAA too… feels like wait times have crept up and coverage isn’t as “all-inclusive” as it used to be. These days, having your own backup plan is almost a must. I’ve started double-checking my roadside coverage every renewal just in case they sneak in changes.

I’ve noticed the same thing with AAA lately—feels like I’m waiting longer every time I call, and half the time they’re “reviewing my plan for eligibility.” Last winter, I actually had to call twice in one week because my battery just wasn’t having it. First call was smooth, second time… not so much. Ended up flagging down a neighbor instead. Honestly, I double-check the fine print now too. They sneak in those little tweaks and suddenly you’re not covered for what you thought you were.

I get where you’re coming from, but honestly, I’ve had the opposite experience with AAA this year. Had a flat in the rain last month and they showed up in under 30 minutes. Maybe it’s just luck of the draw or depends on the area? I do agree about reading the fine print, though—those little changes can sneak up on you if you’re not careful.
